Do you need a visa to study in Armenia?

Citizens of almost all European countries, certain Asian and American countries (see the list) as well as number of other countries /see the list/ with whom Armenia has a bilateral and multilateral agreements do not need a visa to enter Armenia up to 180 days. Most other countries (see the list) get a visa upon their arrival to Armenia. The visa has a maximum validity of 120 days (extendable by another 60 days). It is also possible to get an e-visa by applying online at https://evisa.mfa.am/. Nationals of certain African and Asian countries (see the list) generally do not qualify for visa on arrival and cannot get an online visa (e-visa). Normally an invitation letter from Armenian University is required to get a visa from the embassy abroad. All the visitors can stay in Armenia for up to 180 days in a year. A longer stay is possible for holders of residence permits.

Where and How to Get a Temporary Resident Card?

Citizens of foreign countries need a resident permit to stay in Armenia for more than 180 days. Issues of foreign citizens’ residence card are regulated by the Passport and Visa Department of the RA Police.

The following documents are required to get a residence card:

  • application form,
  • a medical reference on health,
  • reference from the university,
  • registration card for the person leaving the RA or being invited to the RA,
  • a letter from the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport authorizing foreign students to get temporary residence status,
  • student passport copy,
  • passport with Armenian translation, notarized and copy,
  • student residence card with date of expiry,
  • three photos,
  • a power of attorney by the Rector to the specialist who is responsible for foreign students’ residence issues which is presented to Passport and Visa Department of the RA Police,
  • a power of attorney by a student to the specialist who is responsible for foreign students’ residence issues,
  • copy of the passport of a specialist who is responsible for foreign students’ residence issues.
